Our Inspiration
Rooted in Purpose. Powered by Ubuntu.
At Ubuntu Leadership Academy, everything we do is grounded in love, culture, and the unwavering belief that our children deserve to see the greatness within themselves — and in each other.
The Story of U.L.A
Ubuntu Leadership Academy was born from a deep concern and an even deeper calling.
Our Founder, a dedicated educator with years of experience in the school system, witnessed a recurring and painful truth:

Many of our children struggle with their sense of identity due to a lack of exposure to positive role models as they rarely see themselves reflected in what they learn.
She saw how this disconnection affected students’ confidence, their relationships, and their willingness to engage in school. But rather than accept the status quo, she envisioned something different.
1
A school where children learn to love themselves.
2
A school where culture is not an afterthought, but the foundation.
3
A school where academics and identity are intertwined - empowering each child to thrive.
Ubuntu Leadership Academy was created to be that place - a village school guided by African-centered pedagogy, where compassionate educators nurture the mind, heart, and spirit of every scholar.
Here, we don't just educate.
We inspire. We affirm. We uplift.
The Guiding Principles of ULA

1
Ubuntu -“I am because we are”
Ubuntu is more than a philosophy — it is a way of life. At its heart, Ubuntu teaches that our humanity is intertwined; we thrive through compassion, cooperation, and community. It reminds our scholars that their success is connected to the success of those around them — and that kindness, respect, and unity matter.

Pan-Africanism - A Global African Identity
Pan-Africanism emphasizes the shared experiences and resilience of people of African descent across the world. At ULA, this principle comes alive through cultural immersion, global awareness, and a curriculum that honors the legacy, achievements, and collective future of the African diaspora. We raise students who are proud of their roots — and prepared to lead anywhere.

Kwanzaa - Living Our Values Daily
While Kwanzaa is a cultural celebration held at the end of each year, its seven guiding principles — the Nguzo Saba — are values we embrace every day at ULA. These include:
  • Unity (Umoja)
  • Self-Determination (Kujichagulia)
  • Collective Work and Responsibility (Ujima)
  • Cooperative Economics (Ujamaa)
  • Purpose (Nia)
  • Creativity (Kuumba)
  • Faith (Imani)
